Installation and Commissioning of Chain-Type Chip Conveyors

Chain-Type Chip Conveyors are essential auxiliary components in metalworking machines. They collect and transport chips generated during machining, preventing buildup that can reduce machine accuracy, damage components, or create safety hazards. Proper installation and commissioning are crucial for efficient chip removal, stable operation, and extended service life.

Installation Preparation

Before installation, clean the work area thoroughly and inspect all conveyor components, including chain plates, guide rails, motors, and reducers, for deformation, damage, or looseness. Proper preparation ensures that every part is ready for precise alignment and secure fastening.

Positioning and Mounting

Position the chip conveyor directly below the machine tool’s discharge port. Align the inlet carefully to prevent gaps or misalignment. Adjust the conveyor to be level and secure it firmly with anchor bolts to minimize vibration, preventing chain plate wear or derailment. Install seals at connection points to avoid coolant and chip leakage, and set safety guards over moving parts to protect operators.

Chain Plate Tension and Alignment

Adjust chain plate tension carefully. Too loose, and the plate may derail; too tight, and the motor load increases, accelerating wear. Check that the discharge outlet directs chips into the collection system smoothly. Proper alignment ensures efficient chip flow and avoids blockages.

Commissioning and Testing

Commissioning involves two steps: no-load and load testing. In the no-load test, start the conveyor and observe for smooth motion, unusual noise, or stuttering. Monitor motor and reducer performance for overheating or vibration. In load testing, feed actual chips to ensure removal efficiency and detect potential jams. Address issues immediately by adjusting guide rails, chain tension, or speed as needed.

Operational Stability and Maintenance

After commissioning, conduct a trial run to confirm all components operate normally. Regular inspections and maintenance keep the system efficient and reduce failure risks. A properly installed and commissioned chip conveyor improves machine tool safety, enhances production cleanliness, and prolongs equipment lifespan.
