For high-hardness materials, use harder abrasives such as diamond or cubic boron nitride. For general materials, white and brown corundum work well. White corundum is harder but less tough, making it ideal for finishing hardened steel. Brown corundum, on the other hand, works for rough grinding metals with high tensile strength, such as carbon and alloy steel.

Bonding agents fix abrasive grains to the wheel base. Ceramic bonding agents provide high temperature resistance and efficiency, ideal for dry or high-speed grinding. Resin bonding agents offer elasticity and self-sharpening, making them suitable for finishing and shaping grinding.
