Check the clamping jaws, positioning block, and blade support surface. Remove oil, grinding dust, and metal particles from each contact area. Confirm that the blade edge stays parallel to the wheel face. If the position has shifted, adjust the positioning block and clamp the blade again. After clamping, shake the blade gently by hand. The blade should not move before the operator restarts the machine.

The grinding wheel is another major source of edge errors. After long use, the wheel surface may become clogged, worn, or uneven. These conditions reduce cutting sharpness and create unstable contact with the blade edge. A wheel with runout can also grind one section more deeply than another.

Inspect the wheel surface carefully. Clean blocked pores with the correct dressing or cleaning tool. Dress the wheel if the surface shows grooves, dull areas, or irregular wear. This movement creates a visible difference between the first and last sections of the cutting edge. Inspect guide wheels and rails for wear. Tighten loose bolts and replace damaged parts in time.

Machine level also affects grinding contact. Long-term vibration, floor settlement, or relocation can change the machine base position. Use a spirit level to check the machine in both directions.
