How to Fix Oil Pressure and Flow Issues

Let’s start with a common issue: insufficient oil supply. You might hear unusual noise coming from the spindle or guideways. That usually signals worn-out pump parts, clogged filter screens, or simply low oil level. Step one? Check the oil tank. If it’s below the warning line, top it up with the same brand—don’t mix oils. If pressure remains low despite proper oil level, remove and clean the inlet filter. Damaged filters need replacement. If pressure still fluctuates, check for internal pump wear. Minor issues can be fixed by adjusting clearances, but significant wear likely means you need a new pump. Also, misalignment between motor and pump shaft can increase vibration—don’t overlook that during reassembly.

Clearing Blockages in Oil Circulation Paths

Now, about oil line blockages. If the guide rail isn’t getting oil, unscrew the pipe fittings, blow air backward to clear debris, then flush with kerosene. For spindle bearing oil holes, disassemble the housing and probe with a wire before flushing with high-pressure oil. Using a progressive distributor? If one branch isn’t getting oil, inspect the valve core—clean it with diesel, re-grease, and reassemble.

Dealing with Oil Leaks Effectively

For leaks, check every joint. If the threads are worn, use PTFE tape or sealant. Replace loose clamps. Leaky seals often result from misaligned or aged rubber—swap them for oil-resistant ones and lubricate during installation. If welds on the tank are leaking, drain and weld the area, then test pressure after cooling.

Routine Maintenance Tips for Longevity

Finally, regular maintenance keeps these problems at bay. Do the first oil change at 300 hours, then every 2,000 hours. Clean sediment when draining. Check pressure weekly. Clean oil nozzles monthly. Follow these steps and you’ll reduce failures and extend your CNC lathe’s life.
