Smarter Upgrades for Chip Conveyors in Damp Workplaces

High-humidity processing environments can be brutal on equipment. For the CNC Chip Conveyor, constant exposure to moisture can lead to rust, jams, and shorter service life. But with the right upgrades, you can keep your conveyor running smoothly and reliably, even when the air feels like a sauna.

Stronger Materials for Longer Life

The first step is tackling corrosion head-on. Traditional carbon steel parts — like chains and scrapers — can be swapped out for 316 stainless steel or components coated with Dacromet. The stainless steel resists chloride corrosion, while Dacromet’s zinc-chromium layer stands up to salt spray three to five times better than standard galvanizing. For gears and other precision parts, nitriding treatments add hardness and form a protective oxide layer, keeping moisture at bay.

Design Tweaks That Keep Things Dry

Moisture-proofing isn’t just about materials — smart design matters too. Adding angled ventilation holes in the conveyor housing promotes airflow and reduces condensation, while filters block stray chips. Keeping the gap between scraper blades and the trough at 0.5–1 mm ensures efficient chip removal without leaving coolant behind. In spiral conveyors, guide channels in the blades help water drain as chips move along, cutting down liquid buildup. Modular housing makes it easier to swap out any corroded sections later.

Active Drainage and Drying Systems

Sometimes, you have to fight water with technology. A self-priming pump connected to a liquid-level sensor can drain collected water before it causes trouble. For continuous high-humidity operations, small dehumidifiers inside the housing can keep relative humidity below 60%, turning moisture into water and pumping it out. Sealed bearings with waterproof grease prevent premature wear, and automatic grease injectors keep protective lubrication topped up.

Monitoring That Works for You

An intelligent monitoring setup turns the CNC Chip Conveyor into a self-guarding system. Humidity sensors and corrosion plates send live data to the machine’s control system, triggering alerts when conditions get risky. With PLC programming, the conveyor can even run a reverse-cleaning cycle during downtime, flushing out chips and water to prevent rust.

Built to Handle the Wettest Conditions

With these improvements, the CNC Chip Conveyor can stay stable even in 90%+ humidity, cutting corrosion rates by more than 70%. That means less downtime, longer equipment life, and steady performance in challenging conditions — keeping your precision manufacturing on track no matter the weather inside the shop.
